LegacyFileConverter was produced by Edward Mendelson, who says:

"LegacyFileConverter is a 32-bit Windows application that make it
easy to run the old Word for Word file converters in modern
Windows systems. It uses the 1995-era Word for Word for DOS
program, briefly released by Adobe in its Adobe File Utilities
package, now packaged in a compiled AutoIt script. This package
only converts files in formats in use before 1995; do not try to
use it with modern formats like DOCX, ODT, Word 2007, etc."

There's also a Mac version:

Note: WordStar comes with its own file conversion program called
Star Exchange (a rebranded version of Software Bridge). It's in the
folder C:\WS\CONVERT.

See also these alternative conversion utilities:

MS-DOS:

* Word for Word 7.2 (copyright 1996 by Adobe and MasterSoft) in C:\WS\WFW.
It does a decent job going from .RTF to .WS4, handling curly quotes and
smart apostrophes properly and converting em-dashes to PC8 horizontal-line
characters (^P096 or C4 hex). It does NOT set WS4 end-of-word high bits
(which is good). ---> After converting with Word for Word, open created
*.WS file and run WordStar macro DE-WFW to clean up the converted file.

* ConvertPerfect 2.0d from WordPerfect 6.2 (copyright 1996 by Corel) in
C:\WS\CVWP (but it doesn't seem to work with RTF files from Word 2000).

OLDER WINDOWS PROGRAMS:

* Microsoft Word 2000 or Word 2007 if WordStar converters are installed.

* StarOffice 7.0 and 8.0: they use the 1996 MasterSoft "Word for Word"
converters and expect WordStar document files to have the extension .WSD.
